Terrace Decor To Beautify Your Home Surrounds

Angles on Terrace Decor - How to Make Your Terrace More Attractive and Enjoyable

Having a paved area, or terrace, adjoining the house or in the garden nearby, is a great boon to those of us who like to spend as much time as possible outside. If it is sheltered, all the better, as even in the rain you can sit there and enjoy the air and view. To enhance the experience further, though, what sort of terrace decor can you use?

When considering terrace decor, I like to think of external factors too. External, that is, to the terrace itself.

View from terrace

The picture on the left is taken from the house we are currently renting until we can build our own. The front garden was just an ugly yard, with builder's rubble and concrete.

The small covered terrace outside the font door was fine, but the view from it was appalling. So, before attempting anything to beautify the terrace itself, I decided to totally change the builder's yard into an attractive little garden, which would enhance all the time we would sit on the terrace, have our meals, chat and drink.

In the bottom left of the picture above, you will see some very tall plants, known locally in Palawan as birds of paradise. These are incredibly quick growing, and have magnificent flowers that attract nectar eating birds. They were planted there, really, as terrace decor, as they would very quickly provide privacy and flowers immediately behind the baluster and balustrade wall.

Terrace from garden

The second picture, taken from in front of the terrace, shows, with the help of my wife and daughter, the height of the beautiful birds of paradise, in this case sporting a yellow flower. Our garden table is now set just the other side of the plants, on the terrace itself, with the flowers of various colours coming and going throughout the year.

What type of plants you can grow just beyond the terrace wall depends on your climate, but that aspect is definitely worth considering. When it comes to the terrace itself, it can be made more attractive with various types of terrace decor.

In our terrace above, you will see the marble balusters and balustrade. As an ornate surround to a terrace, these can be quite decorous. Other features for a terrace will depend on its size, but you can certainly consider trellis with climbing plants, outdoor planters, fountains, statues and other garden ornaments.
