Wooden Bird Houses

Many of us like to encourage birds into our gardens. They are like transitory live garden decor that give a lot of pleasure with their behaviour, appearance and song. One way to attract them and get them to stay around a few weeks, is to put up birdhouses, and to fit in with the garden surrounds, wooden birdhouses are usually the most effective.

Garden birds, of course, are familiar with wood, so it is natural to them, and therefore likely to make them more at ease in choosing your bird house for the season's brood or broods. Wooden bird houses are also the traditional type of bird house to provide artificial homes, rather than the more garish but fun designs you can also find nowadays.

Wood is also the most popular material for bird houses, so wooden bird houses are relatively easy to find. You can also find wooden bird houses for many of the types of birds that are most likely to use a bird house.

One of the best families of birds to watch in action are the flycatchers, so to have them around the home and garden is a real boon. They also keep those flying insects down in numbers. Flycatchers are one of those types of birds that seem to sieze the opportunity of a man made house for their nesting season, especially if it is "made to measure" and a fine example is pictured left.

One of the most popular birds in North America for bird houses is the bluebird. These delightful birds compete with sparrows for nesting spaces, so finding a wooden bird house just for bluebirds is a great idea for those of you in the bluebird range. The one pictured left is an example of a good quality, pre-made wooden bluebird house. Just imagine those lovely birds flying in and out of there many times a day.

One of the most popular birds in North America for providing bird houses to is the purple martin. In this case, the popularity works both ways, as they totally rely on human provision of housing.
