Wild Bird Houses For Sale Online

For bird lovers, there is something very special about having wild birds nesting in the garden. To have birds coming to feed is a wonderful experience, bringing your garden to life with nature. However, to watch them start building a nest, lay eggs, rear the young and then see the young fly, can be a quite magical experience. This is why wild bird houses are so popular, as well as being an aid to particular birds whose own natural nesting sites may be in short supply.

Wild bird house for flycatchersThe wild bird houses which are most widely seen are, of course, for the birds most widely seen in gardens and most amenable to nesting close to homes. You will find most of these bird houses for sale online.

There are quite a few less common wild birds, though, who may benefit from bird houses. Not all may be seen in small gardens, but those people with large country gardens or farms may have more scope for something a little bit different.

If you are lucky though, even with a small garden you may have flycatchers around; if you live in the right place, that is. In England, for example, I rarely saw a flycatcher. Where I live in Palawan in the Philippines, I never see flycatchers; but when I lived in Cebu, a pair of flycatchers used to sit by the window each day doing what they do best: catching flies. They are a true delight to watch.

Wild bird house - barn owl.

While wild bird houses may all look similar to the uninitiated, but there are some big differences. The bird house pictured top left is designed specifically for flycatchers. As you see, it has a much smaller hole than the second wild bird house, which is designed for wild wood ducks.

A completely different design altogether is the third picture, which is a barn owl nest box. The barn owl, my favourite of all wild birds, has had its favourite nesting sites decimated over recent decades by modern and efficient farming methods. The old fashioned barn, with lots of holes in to allow barn owls in and out, are no longer so common. So, if you love wild birds, here is an opportunity to help a species of bird, a majestic night time predator, maintain its numbers.
