Desktop Decor For Home and Office
Any bare surface in a home provides an opportunity (or is it a temptation?) to place an ornament on it. Dresser shelves, tables, and mantelpieces are all open to the odd ornament being placed on them for decoration. Whether antiques or modern ornaments adorn those surfaces, it is not often you will see a completely bare flat surface in a home. The motto seems to be "if its flat and bare, put an ornament on it." And why not? This applies to a desktop as well as anywhere else, as more and more people work from home or at least have a desk at home.
Desktop decor really became popular in offices, where people wanted to establish their own little piece of personality and homeliness in their work environments. Longer ago, though, there is no doubt the rich gentlemen of yesteryear were not against putting antique ornaments on their desktops, where they would write letters in their studies with their quilled pens.
The modern home, though, commonly includes a desk in its furnishings, even if it is only a computer desk rather than a grand oak antique taking up half the room. Desktop decor has evolved in offices to add a personal touch, to bring some light relief to a tedious job, or to make an impression. At home, though, it is likely to be their just for a bit of amusement or home decoration.
What Can You Use For Desktop Decor?
You can use just about any relatively small ornament or novelty for desktop decor. Especially popular for desks are desktop statues and sculptures, pen stands, book ends and clocks, as well as many other choices. Some of these decorous items also have a practical purpose, such as the pen holders.
If you like an ornament, and it is small enough, then why not use it as desktop decor, just as you would with any other decor in the house?
