Organize and Declutter Your Laundry Room

While not many of us find doing laundry to be an enjoyable task, it's nonetheless another one of life's most necessary chores. Luckily there are a few simple ways of making doing the laundry a bit easier, decluttering the laundry room and also saving some extra time in the process.

Devise a schedule as to what day dark clothes will be washed, or which day are for whites, or delicates, and have everyone in the house sort their laundry accordingly. Set up different colored baskets so that laundry days are less of a hassle.

If there isn't a shelf or stand to hold all of your laundry products near the washer and dryer, install a simple wooden shelf nearby so that everything's within arm's reach and not cluttered. This saves time running back and forth to different cupboards or drawers looking for stain removers, or other items you may need. Also be sure everyone in the house knows where to find everything so that they can also do their part.

Keep track of when the dryer vents need cleaning, and install a small chalk board or dry erase board somewhere in the laundry room for jotting down other important reminders. This could include noting when you're close to being out of a certain item, or for information about clothes that shouldn't be put in the dryer, or that may have special washing instructions.

If you're like most people and would rather not iron if you don't have to, invest in a mobile clothing rack that can be moved about the laundry room to hang the clothes up, right from the dryer. A few packs of plastic hangers and a bottle of fabric freshener are two other must-haves along with the rack. Spritz the clothes, snap or shake them out a few times, and then hang on the rack to finish drying, but without wrinkles.

Have a place set aside in the laundry room for a box or basket of items that need repairs, and another for clothes that are now out of season and need put into storage. Yet another box could be for items that no longer fit, or that are to be donated, making sorting and organizing much quicker.
