Asian and Garden Home Decor

Asia is a vast continent, with many countries and cultures. Yet they all seem to have one thing in common, and that is distinctive styles of decor and furnishings that have what many Westerners regard as an eastern flavour. Whether fabrics, sculptures, pottery or wooden ornaments, Asian home and garden decor can have an exotic touch that often eludes Western designs.
I think the first Asian ornament I ever saw in my country of origin, England, was a Buddha. In fact, way back then that was about all you would commonly see. Then came better communications and more travel in the late 1970s and since, and Asian decor has become much more widely available and appreciated.

Now I live in South East Asia myself, in the Philippines, where that Asian feel is very much present in native wood carvings, artwork, furniture and fabrics.
However, you do not have to come to Asia to bring Asian inspired decor to your home. Products to adorn your home in Asian styles and influence can now be found online with relative ease. Many are intriguing and delightful, such as the brass turtles on an intricate branch (above left). Turtles are a wonderful natural feature of this part of Asia, so it is good to see them adorning decor available in the US.

Asian vases and other pottery are perhaps the most common of Asian decor items, but wood too can feature in some lovely Asian vases. It is not too often that you see mango wood used, but the vase right is made out of this very attractive wood, that just happens to bear my favourite fruit.
I could easily get distracted here and start writing about exotic tropical fruits, so I will go and eat a mango instead
