Buddha Statues - The Symbol of Asian Decor

Also: Buddha Statuettes, Buddha Garden Statues, Asian Decor

Walking Buddha statue

One of the sheer delights of visiting some Asian countries is seeing the Buddhist temples, in those countries, such as Thailand, where Buddhism is practised. The image of a Buddha is one that is carried by many Westerners as a symbol of oriental Asia, often represented in the form of statues. To an extent they are the epitome of Asian decor.

Buddha statuettes and statues have a far more significant role in the lives of Buddhists than as decor. A Buddha is an enlightened one, and not a God as many westerners seem to think, and of great importance to Buddhists. However, there is no doubting that Buddha statues can be very impressive, interesting and a notable feature in a home or garden.

Gold Buddha statueBuddhist statues tend to come in various poses of a Buddha. Our top picture is of a walking Buddha, one who has just achieved enlightenment. Walking Buddhas are often seen in Laos and Thailand. You may note that the right hand of the Buddha is raised, in what is called the Abhaya mudra, which means fearlessness. The mudra represents peace, dispersing fear and protecting from evil. This particular walking giant statue is 5 foot tall, and made from brass. It can be used indoors or outside in the garden.

Reclining Buddha statueThe second picture (above left) is a stunningly beautiful Buddhist statue. Although made from Thai polished brass, this 3 foot tall Buddha appears to be gold, such is the power of the shine. This Buddha is in the calling earth to witness position, helping you to create an area of peace and serenity somewhere in the home or garden.

The final picture (above left) is of a reclining Buddha, again in brass. This position is adopted by Buddhas as they await the momentary transition from life to death, which for the Buddha is a journey to a transcendental state. This small statue is just 21 inches across, so easy to place anywhere suitable in the home or garden.
